Position Purpose:
The pastor's primary role is to preach and teach the Word of God. Everything else is considered a subsidiary function to this.
The pastor at UCC is responsible for leading the spiritual growth and well being of the congregation, showing a genuine love and care for all. The pastor will preach, teach, and administer the Sacraments or ordinances and give primary leadership in the ministries of Worship, Stewardship, and Outreach. He will oversee the day to day operations of the church.
Responsibilities:
WORSHIP & TEACHING:
To plan and lead worship services including preaching and teaching the Word of God.
Coordinate the various worship groups (contemporary, robed choir, sermon, Scripture readings) so that there is a consistent message during each service.
Assist the congregation in meeting the church's purpose.
Provide pastoral counseling and counseling in the preparation for baptism, confirmation, marriage.
Assist in Christian Education and study for all age groups (Men, women, couples' Bible Study Groups, Adult and Children's Sunday School Groups, Youth groups, Christianity Explored).
Liason with the ICS Youth Group.
Be involved in men's ministry, striving to identify talents and prepare men for ministry within the church community.
Conduct baptism and the Lord's Supper as per the norms of UCC.
To officiate at special services such as weddings, funerals, nursing home services, etc.
To work to develop and maintain a music program for all ages and to integrate music into worship and other areas of the congregation.
OUTREACH:
To work to implement ministries that reach out to the unchurched, in-actives and new residents of our community with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Promote the church to the established English Speaking Community
To direct the assimilation of new members into the church.
To encourage all organizations and ministries of the church to carry out their work with an emphasis on welcoming others to participate in the mission work of Christ.
STEWARDSHIP:
To work with the Stewardship committee to promote, educate, and advocate responsible biblical stewardship in the congregation.
To assist the Church Council with financial matters of the congregation.
ADMINISTRATION:
To oversee the administration and management of all areas of the congregation's ministry in consultation with the Church Council, appropriate committees and staff.
To support and assist the Worship, Christian Education and Benevolence committees who have primary responsibility in the ministries of education, youth, pastoral care, fellowship, missions and older adults.
To support, supervise, manage and evaluate, in conjunction with the Finance and Administration Committee and Church Council, the staff of the congregation. Participate in the screening and hiring of non-ordained staff. To build a sense of team-wo
