Overview:
The mission of this position is to encourage children and their parents in a life of discipleship. Casts the vision for the ministry, and develops and communicates mission and goals. Develops programs and activities for children, (birth through fifth grade) which are designed to nurture each child’s spiritual growth through teaching, caring, fellowship and fun. Assures that the church is offering age appropriate experiences with Scripture, worship, and service throughout the childhood years while being an encouragement and a resource to the parents in their role as their child’s primary spiritual teacher. Develops and maintains programs and procedures to ensure safety and security. Continually evaluates programs and events to ensure excellence and alignment with church mission. Knowledge and Skills Desired; Training Desired:
1. A high-energy, enthusiastic individual with a calling and passion for children
2. A person of strong Christian faith who lives their faith and leads by example. A servant heart, willing to serve the needs of the church community
3. College degree, preferably in an area of children/education; solid understanding of all areas of child development, including faith and moral development
4. Minimum of 3 years experience as a ministry leader or Director of Children's Ministry
5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Competent in speaking to large groups of parents/teachers, etc. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
6. Demonstrated excellent administrative and organizational skills; sound judgment and decision making skills
7. Exceptional creativity and resourcefulness
8. Knowledge of curriculum development consistent with the tenants of Methodism
9. Experience with large scale volunteer recruitment and training/development activities; successful at managing and inspiring laity in their ministry
10. Ability to achieve goals working independently without heavy supervision
11. Able to manage a yearly program budget and make recommendations
12. Be able to teach a class at any level in an emergency
